ATTITUDE: the final piece in the back-care triad

In the “Action” section, I discussed Tension Myositis Syndrome, wherein the brain can create a very real sensation of pain even when nothing is physically amiss. Whether you buy into this idea or not, you must buy into the concept that your attitude will serve you hugely in determining whether you triumph over back pain or succumb to it.

Have you ever heard of Morris Goodman, better known as “The Miracle Man”? Morris was in a horrific plane crash that left him almost completely paralyzed; the only thing he could do was blink his eyes. But he determined that he would fight his way back from his situation, with the goal of walking out of the hospital under his own power. Bit by bit, he inched his way back toward physical functionality, using nothing but his own willpower and an amazing can-do attitude. Today, he is fully recovered and travels the world lecturing about the importance of attitude. His is just one of myriad such stories. If you believe you can recover the vibrant health that is your birthright–and do everything in your power to make it so–you will.
